Nadowli (U/W), Aug. 23, GNA - Mr Alban S.K. Bagbin, the Minority Leader in Parliament, said on Sunday that, only a miracle would return the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to power.
"Unfortunately for the NPP, miracles don't work in favour of people, who fail the litmus test of probity and accountability."
Mr Bagbin, who is the Member of Parliament for Nadowli West, was speaking at Nadowli, after the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), re-elected him by popular acclamation, as its parliamentary candidate of the Constituency for Election 2004.
He stressed: " Whichever part of Ghana you go, the ground is fertile for the NDC to till and win votes."
He said some NPP supporters would be happy if the Government lost the Presidential Election and won the Nadowli West seat, because the ruling Party saw "Bagbin as an obstacle".
"The 100 per cent tolerance for corruption regime of the NPP sees me as the major obstacle to the perpetuation of their culture of nepotism, tribalism and inept governance," he said
The Minority Leader said the NDC would win Election 2004 with the widest margin ever.
"Now that we (NDC) have risen to the pinnacle where the world knows us and is ready to assist us, shall we throw away the baby with the bathwater and get back to square one?"
Naa Seidu Braimah, Upper West Regional Vice-Chairman of the NDC, accused the NPP of using petty gifts to entice voters. He said the NDC would use the truth and past performance to win the elections.
Dr Benjamin Kumbour, MP for Lawra/Nandom, said the NDC would win all the parliamentary seats in the Region.
"The forces that are fighting this battle are forces of truth and transparency which our opponents cannot withstand."
