Business Activities Boom In Ashanti Region…As Kumasi Hosts Private Universities

Business activities in the capital of the Ashanti region, Kumasi has risen significantly during the week as it Plays hosts to students from more than 2o private Universities all over the country in the 8th Edition of the annual Private Universities' Students Association of Ghana (PUSAG) Sports and Entertainment Festival, which began at the Paa Joe stadium of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi this week.

Traders at the campus of the KNUST disclose that indeed the decision by the student's body to convey the event to the region has really helped them a lot and will wish for same next year as they continue to make more sales till Friday when the festival will end.

The event is under the theme: “Shifting the paradigm towards tertiary sports development”.

According to the National President, Mr Adams Sukparu, the PUSAG Games is one of their major programmes organized every year since the establishment of the Association in 2005.

He noted that the game was also established to continuously promote and enhance a cordial relationship that exists between member institutions.

“After the struggle and the pain of visiting most private entities, ministries and others stakeholders, award winning Bank, Uni bank decided to support PUSAG in our quest to develop sportsmen and women in Ghana.

According to him, the role Uni bank is playing in the various facets of development in the country makes them the second to none with their scope as trailblazers in the financial and banking sector.

“We would like to inform the world and all stakeholders in all sectors of the Ghanaian economy, that we the over 100,000 students and the alumni of the private universities in Ghana are sincerely grateful and hold in high esteem this partnership

He entreated students to participant in sports disciplines saying 'Sports is a major employer and we always encourage our students to exploit their potentials'.

Mr.Raphael Apetorgbor, PUSAG Media Relations Officer on his part hinted that 32 accredited private universities across the country are participating in the event to compete in games like soccer, basketball, volleyball, track events, tennis, handball and swimming.

Apetorgbor explained that the aim of the Sports and Entertainment Festival is to discover talents and strengthen comradeship among students.

The Media Relations Officer said he was impressed with the level of preparation; and that he was confident of hosting a successful event.

“I'm really impressed with support from member institutions. It's the Eight Edition and the first time Kumasi is hosting the event, we expect to see an exciting game with plenty skills. I am optimistic it will be a success,” said Apetorgbor.

On the incident of riot which occurred at the previous event, he said adequate security protection against hooligans has been taken into consideration.

The association was formed in 2005,by five private institutions namely Central University College, Methodist College, Valley View University and Pentecost University College.

Private Universities participating in the championships are: Pentecost University College, Islamic University College, University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies, Catholic University College, Valley View University, Kaaf University College, Zenith University College, Ashesi University College, Central University College.

Spiritan University College, Evangelical Presbyterian University College, Pan-African Christian University College, Christian Service University College, Knutsford University College, kings University College, Presbyterian University College, Radford University College.

Others are All Nations University College, Garden City University College, Maranatha University College, Central University College, Regent University College, Wisconsin University College, Ghana Baptist University College, Methodist University College, and Datalink University College among others.
