Two Ghanaians have been shot dead by small scale Chinese miners at a small town near Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The two were among some men who allegedly attacked the Chinese for encroaching on their land.

Obuasi Divisional Crime Officer DSP Kwabena Otua Acheampong confirmed this to Joy News.

"Yesterday around 5:30 we had information that there was a shooting incident at a town near Mebrewa near Obuasi.. So police went there and apparently it is a Chinese mining site owned by one Mr Kojo Fodjour, a Ghanaian," he said.

He explained it was a "concession dispute" between that mining site and another site owned by one Mr Gyima.

According to him, Gyima had information that his site had been encroached by some Chinese workers and therefore called his boys to go and ward off the Chinese workers.

DSP Acheampong said the boys allegedly caned the the Chinese workers who retaliated by opening fire on the Ghanaians.

Two Ghanaians were reported dead as a result.
Member of Parliament for Obuasi West, Kwaku Kwarteng is warning that foreigners could soon become the target of mob action if nothing is done about the situation.
