Rest in Peace; Man of Peace flyers adorn principal streets

Accra, Aug 7, GNA – “Rest in Peace; Man of Peace,” specially designed flyers with the effigy of late President John Evans Atta Mills embossed in the centre adorn most ceremonial streets of Accra as the nation puts in final preparation towards the burial of the President.

Ghana News Agency on tour of most ceremonial and principal streets on Tuesday observed that most electricity poles as well as some commercial, private and public buildings have all been clad in red and black fabric.

According to Ghanaian custom, red used for mourning signifies the pain of the people left behind, whilst the black connotes the demise of the departed. Death brings gloomy atmosphere.

Some cooperate bodies have also erected billboards and banners in honour of late President Mills who passed away on day July 24 at the 37th Military Hospital three-days after his 68th birthday.

Musical groups, the Military and Police bands, flute players, drummers and other special groups have all stepped up preparation towards the burial of the President on Friday, August 10.

All flags have been flying at half mast since July 24th; whilst Ghanaians and the international community have poured out messages of condolences.

The airwaves, internet sites and newspapers have all been choked with messages praising late President Mills for his accomplishment, humility, statesmanship and contribution towards deepening Ghana's democracy.
