Techimantia (B/A), July 6, GNA – MTN Ghana Foundation has since its establishment in 2007 invested GH¢ 7,000,000 in health and education projects in the country.
In Brong-Ahafo alone the Foundation has committed a total amount of GH¢ 694,350.80 in the construction of school buildings, drilling of boreholes and the provision of other health projects.
Mrs. Cynthia Lumor, Corporate Services Executive of MTN, announced this when she commissioned an ultra modern Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Centre at Techimantia in Tano South District of the region on Friday.
The Foundation constructed the centre at the cost of 100,000 US dollars.
Mrs. Lumor explained that as market leaders, “MTN always sets the pace for others to follow and so realizing the ICT education deficit in the country, the company took up the challenge to complement government efforts in this area”.
This initiative, she said, was in support of efforts to bridge the digital divide between the served and underserved communities and also support the implementation of the mandatory ICT component of the new educational reforms.
The Corporate Service Executive said the Foundation had also set up an ICT center at Ankaful Prisons in Cape Coast and recently opened another one at Abossey Okai in Accra for the business community.
Mrs. Lumor said the Foundation had further committed funds to build a special ICT centre for Akropong School for the Blind and Nima cluster of schools in Accra.
She re-affirmed MTN's commitment to partner other state actors and corporate institutions to promote quality education in the country.
Mr. Bukari Zakari Anaba, District Chief Executive, commended the company for its contribution to accelerated national development and entreated other companies to follow suit.
He advised students in the community to take advantage of the facility and learn more about ICT.
Mr. Anaba stressed the government's commitment to ensure that all primary school children acquire basic knowledge in ICT and entreated students in the area to use the centre, especially during their leisure hours.
