Court jails unemployed 18 months for stealing palm oil

Akim Oda (E/R), June 15, GNA – An 18-year-old unemployed who stole 60 litres of palm oil valued GH¢56.00 from a house has been slapped with 18-month-jail term by a Magistrate Court at Akim Oda.

Bright Andy Fuseni pleaded guilty to unlawful entry and stealing.

The trial judge, Mr Albert Owusu Annor accordingly, sentenced Fuseni to 12 months imprisonment on the first count and 18 months imprisonment on the second count, to run concurrently.

Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah said the complainant operates oil mills at Akim Swedru, while the convict also lives at Akim Swedru Zongo and that around 1100 hours on May 28, Fuseni approached her with two 30-litre containers of “red oil” for sale.

Chief Inspector Ahenkorah said the complainant subjected Fuseni to interrogations, but he could not tangibly expressed himself and therefore suspected him of stealing the oil.

According to the Prosecutor, the complainant and others managed to send Fuseni to the police station, where he disclosed that he stole the oil from one Madam Agnes Asante's house at Akim Awisa.

He, adding that the convict led the police to the house where Madam Asante confirmed that oil was missing.
