Tarkwa Nsueam recorded 2,362 candidates for BECE

Dompim (W/R), April 17, - GNA - A total of 2,362 candidates from 59 schools have been registered in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality for the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Out of the total registered candidates, four students were reported to be absent of which one is said to have died two months ago.

Mrs Catherine Davis, Municipal Education Director for Tarkwa Nseuam, said this to the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday during a visit by Mrs Christina Cobbinah, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), to the seven examination centers within the assembly.

The centers she visited include Dompim, Nsueam, Catholic Junior High School, Fiaseman Senior High School and Tarkwa Senior High School which had two centers each.

She said for the total schools registered, 42 were from the public schools as against 17 private schools and that the total candidates from public schools were 1,803 of which 946 are males as against 857 females while 559 candidates were recorded from the private schools of which 285 are males 274 females.

Mrs Christina Cobbinah, commended the municipal health directorate and education for the frequent family planning programmes they had organized for the youth in the area.

She promised to assist them to continue to organize such programmes and help eliminate the high rate of teenage pregnancy among the youth in the municipality.
