Ghana Tourism Board Now Authority

A new Ghana Tourism Authority has been established to replace the Ghana Tourist Board.

According to a press release signed and issued by the Head of Communications at the new authority, Mr Ben Ohene-Ayeh, Parliament has passed a new Ghana Tourism Authority Law (Act 817) which has been assented to by the President of the Republic of Ghana.

The objective of the new Ghana Tourism Authority, the release said, was to promote the sustainable development of the tourism industry both internally and internationally.

The authority will also comply with regulations on tourism development in Ghana.

Furthermore, the new authority will grant licences for the industry, regulate and supervise tourism enterprises as well as monitor the activities of licencees.

According to the release, the authority would also ensure the management and development of appropriate designs for tourist sites, promote pro-poor tourism, sustainable and responsible tourism and take appropriate measures for safety and security of consumers of Ghana’s tourism products.

In addition to its stated objectives, the Ghana Tourism Authority will set up a Tourism Development Fund which will provide funding for tourism and tourism related projects and programmes, the release added.
