Words of wisdom, discovery of lies

Words of wisdom, discovery of lies
24.06.2011 LISTEN

Hmmmm. Could I get more. These were the words that came out of my mouth after listening to Prof. Yankah after his lecture at the British Council. His lecture had a strong aroma accurate and extensive use of the Queens language, interspersed with satire and simmering with admonishment. Thought provoking as it was, I learnt without realizing. I said to myself that if all lecturers could lecture this way, who would dread the possibility of trailing a course. The apex of humour in the lecture that caught me laughing out loudly was the point about Alhaji Mumuni trying to explain what the President actually meant when he said “dzi wo fie asem” to the BBC after so much controversy had arisen out of that statement. But the educative point was what Joyfm reported on. And it was captioned “There's competition for attention in Gov't communication machinery”.

Barely a day after this lecture, “the order of the vulture” (awarded to persons who can lie most) has been awarded to the bald young over enthusiastic Okudzeto Ablakwa by none other but his own Minister for employment and Social Welfare. Okudzeto in his bid to impress his pay masters that he was still good in his genetic abilities (lies) claimed the gov't after assuming power for 12 months had indeed created 1.2 million jobs. When called upon to substantiate his claim, he tried to heap the unnecessary display of ineptitude and propaganda on poor civil servants in the various ministries.

Ironically he has now been going round with the manifesto of the NPP during the 2000 elections. And pointing it out to Ghanaians now that he possesses wisdom more than any Ghanaian hence his ability to tell us that the NPP didn't deserve a second term because they broke all their promises even though Ghanaians in their own wisdom thought the NPP had done satisfactorily well his their decision to grant them a second term.

Whilst Okudzeto was pointing out his fore finger on the NPP as liars he forgot that the rest of the fingers pointed back on him. The minority in parliament knowing how fishy Okudzeto's claim of job creation sounded decided to call the Minister of Employment to attest to the claim on the floor of parliament( where perjury cannot be committed) last year. The minister to save his head and integrity said he knows nothing of the claim.

Some of us decided to give the minister the benefit of the doubt since maybe he didn't consult enough to know the truth in the claim. The minster was called again to the house to answer the same question on June 23, 2011 a year after. And not surprisingly he and his ministry have disassociated themselves from this claim. Clearly we have been made to realize that we are actually paying an individual to lie to us. We deserve better and the earlier the President who promised to give us better, the better for this nation.

For the meantime I am supervising the making of the Gold medal which would be awarded to Ablakwa for lying to us.
