The Central Regional Youth Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party, Francis Ejaku Donkoh, has expressed optimism about the prospects of the party's return to power in 2012.

According to Mr Ejaku Donkoh, the glaring failures of the Mills-led National Democratic Congress government, and the reaction of the electorate, offer ample indication that the people are determined to support the NPP to return to power.

Speaking during the occasion of election of new executive for the University of Cape Coast branch of the Tertiary Education Students Confederacyof the NPP, the Regional Youth Organizer was, however, quick to remind the youth that the failures of the NDC would not automatically translate into victory for the party in the 2012 elections.

“We need to fight hard to ensure our party's return to power to continue the implementation of the sound policies we had initiated, which are being destroyed by the incompetent Mills government,” he challenged the students.

Mr Ejaku Donkoh urged all TESCON members to rededicate themselves to the cause of the party, by eschewing any tendency to pursue personal and parochial interests at the expense of the collective interest of the party.

“We need to particularly avoid any activity or utterances that could have the potential to create problems and undermine our desire to ensure the peace and unity required to win the 2012 elections,” he underscored.

Alluding to the motto of TESCON, Commitment without Inducement, the Youth Organizer enjoined the rank and file of the Confederacy to continue to sacrifice for the party “since the party belongs to us as the future leaders.”

He urged them not to be discouraged by the fact that their aspirations as active party foot soldiers were not satisfactorily met by the party while in government, assuring them that the right measures would be put in place to ensure that “the youth get what we deserve when we fight to return the party to power in 2012.”

Mr Ejaku Donkoh, while congratulating the new executive elect, challenged them to work harder to make the Confederacy more attractive to students. This, he noted, could be achieved if they worked together with the vanquished in the supreme interest of the party.

Touching on the perceived factionalism in the party, he urged the executive elect to show more commitment to the broad agenda of the party winning the 2012 elections, instead of personalities.

He particularly exhorted the students to support any move that would work to ensure the party's return to power, stressing “whatever is going on in the party is not meant to allow the NDC to remain in power after the 2012 elections. We are not looking at the 2016 elections, but we are looking at winning the 2012 elections, and that is why we must all support any path being charted in that direction.”

The executive elect include McDaniels Nyame, President, Seth Adu, Vice President, Okyere Elijah Forkuo, Treasurer, Botsio Michael, Organizer, Akushe Gazali, Deputy Organizer, Amo Felix Dela, Public Relations Officer, and Sylvestina Broh, Women Organizer.

In an interview with this reporter, the President elect, McDaniels Nyame, gave the assurance that he would work harder with his team to revive the Confederacy, and ensure that it regains its status as the most organized in the country.

He extended the olive branch to the vanquished and stressed the need for all to work in unity towards the return of the party to power in 2012.
