Akim Oda, (E/R), Jan. 11, GNA - A 21-year-old farmer, Kwesi Owusu, has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour by the Akim Oda Magistrate's Court for stealing cocoa beans valued at GH¢66.00.

Police Chief Inspector Adelaide Appiakorang told the court, presided over by Mr Albert Owusu Annor, that the complainant, Mr Asare also a farmer, lived at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District.

He said on December 30, last year, at about 1200 noon, the convict approached the complainant and proposed to sell some cassava on his farm, worth GH¢ 20.00 which Mr Asare agreed to buy.

Chief Inspector Appiakorang said Mr Asare failed to pay the money, and as such, Owusu took the law into his own hands and decided to steal the cocoa beans by sneaking into Mr Asare's house at dawn on January 1, this year.

She said Owusu was caught, arrested and was handed over to the police.
