AFTER two years of imparting vocational knowledge to hundreds of orphans in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis who were offered free admission to undertake various vocational courses at the Outreach Africa Vocational Institute (OAVI), the students at the weekend demonstrated the practicality of the knowledge acquired.

This was at the Open Day of the school, which also coincided with the exhibition of practical vocation acquired.

The school, which undertakes vocational subjects such as catering, dressmaking, draughtmanship, hairdressing, batik and tie and dye free of charge, saw the students in each field of the vocational disciplines exhibiting products made out of each vocation.

The guests at the Open day including the Sekondi-Takoradi Mayor, Mr. Kobina Pra Annan, the Director of OAVI, Brother Daniel Asiamah, and host of others, inspected the exhibits which ranged from food, building plans, batik, tie and dye, to sewn clothes.

The OAVI was established two years ago by Brother Daniel Owusu-Asiamah, an Evangelist, to offer free vocational training to the underprivileged in society, particular orphans.

The school also provides free meals for the students, as well as transports them to and from school. It also provides the basic materials needed for practical training.

Addressing the hundreds of guests at the school's Open Day, Brother Asiamah underscored the need for society to do all it can to help prepare and nurture the young people for a better future.

According to him, “If we fail to do this, posterity will never forgive us.” As a result, the government and the civil society have a responsibility to help save the youth from vices such as armed robbery among others.

To him, one of the best ways to solve these problems was the empowerment of the youth through vocational training.

“I am therefore challenging all meaning Ghanaians, be it individual, corporate bodies, as well as religious bodies, to consider setting up free vocational schools in their various districts. We need to begin to be givers. Let us learn how to give, and it will be given unto us.”

Turning his attention to the students, Brother Asiamah told them to do all they can to complete their course.

“By the grace of God, I will continue to do all I can to give you a better future through your training here. I know that my labour will never be in vain. I want you to succeed in life.”

Nonetheless, Bro Asiamah reminded the students that successful people moved on their own initiative, and that they knew where they were going before they started.

Mayor Mr. Kobina Pra Annan stressed that the contributions of Bro. Asiamah to society, was a challenge for other Christians to emulate.
