Zain Builds School For Krobos

Zain Communications Group has built a new state-of the-art basic school for the Odumase-Krobo Presbyterian Primary and Junior High Schools, which collapsed last year, resulting in the death of one of the pupils after a deadly rainstorm hit the town.

Zain went to aid of the Odumase-Krobo after the plight of the school children were published in the Daily Graphic.

The project comprises of a new library which is fully stocked with books, a computer lab equipped with 30 flat screen computers and internet access, a new staff common room and a head-teacher's office with computers and internet access and believed to have cost several thousands of cedis.

Officially handing over the school building to the community at a colourful ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Zain Africa, Chris Gabriel revealed that Zain was extremely proud and happy to give back to the community as part of its social responsibility after a young member of a community lost his life in a preventable circumstance.

According to him, Zain sees education as very vital in the proper development of everyone's life and the children at Odumase-Krobo deserve the opportunity as any other child in Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi and the big towns.

He described the new school building as 'a world class facility' which would provide a conducive environment for effective teaching and learning since according to him; with the company complementing the gesture by providing teaching and learning materials for teachers and students respectively.

“These students would return to a safe and secure building to learn in a conducive environment for good academic results,” he reiterated.

The country manager of Zain, Philip Sowah on his part said: “the project shows the commitment of the company to give back meaningfully to the society” adding that all the various departments of the company were involved in the designing and financing of the project.

According to him, Zain had a lot of projects up its sleeves which were meant to give back to the society as part of the “Build Our Nation” initiative by the company.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo commissioned the building and praised the company for their foresight, adding “investing in education is the best thing for a corporate body to do.”

According to him, Zain had shown that it was there for the people despite the fact that it had limited networks in the Krobo area of the eastern region by providing the people with a school building.

He explained that as a result of the resourcefulness of the company, he would form a strong partnership in order to help them grow their business in the region.

The new library was named after Bernard Nartey, the class six pupil who lost his life in the storm.
