Landlord petitions KMA Boss… Against planned demolition of house

By Issah Alhassan, Kumasi - Ghanaian Chronicle

Alhaji Kasom, the landlord of House No. Block XIV, Plot 20 of Oforikrom Extension in the Anloga electoral area of Kumasi, has petitioned against the intended demolition of his house, which land was leased to him by the Lands Commission, the Amakom Stool and Asantehene, effective August 1977 for 99 years.

The said lease is expected to expire on July 31, 2076.

The desperate landlord claims his house had been earmarked for demolition, because it was believed to be on a waterway.

But Alhaji Kasom says the flooding in the area is not caused by his house, which is not on a waterway, and explained that flooding in the area was caused by refuse thrown into the local Sisa stream, because of the non-availability of a sanitary site, and the uncompleted concrete bridge, which gets choked when it rains.

He appealed to the KMA boss to find ways of dredging the Sisa stream, and demolish the uncompleted concrete bridge, to allow the free flow of water in the drainage system.
