Machine operator charged for stealing

Kumasi, May 25, GNA - A Kumasi Circuit Court has remanded a machine operator into police custody for allegedly stealing equipment worth GH¢3,070 belonging to a printing press at Ashanti New Town in Kumasi.

The court has also ordered Kwabena Adjei, the accused whose plea was not taken, to lead the police to Bolgatanga in the Upper East region to retrieve some of the items which he claims are with one Sakyi, an accomplice.

The 28- year old accused will re-appear in court on June 3, 2009.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Nana Mary Adwoa Affanyi told the court presided over by Mr. Adjei Frimpong that Mr. Owusu Akyeaw is the owner of the company whereas Adjei assists him to operate his machines.

She said on April 2, this year, Mr Akyeaw detected the theft of one puller machine, a flying wheel belt, stitching machine, a set of spanners and three dumping rollers, all valued at GH¢3,070.

Suspecting the accused, the complainant caused his arrest and during interrogation, accused admitted the offence and mentioned the said accomplice.

During a search in his room, a flying wheel belt, set of spanners and three dumping rollers were retrieved.

Meanwhile, the puller and the stitching machines are yet to be recovered from his accomplice.
