Accra, May 18, GNA - Mr Yaw Owusu, Managing Director of Daylight
consultancy Services (DCS), a debt-collection company, has expressed
concern about the low pace at which property rate was being collected in the
country.
He asked the municipal, metropolitan, and district assemblies to initiate
proper rate collection mechanism in order to generate enough revenue for
development.
Mr. Owusu in an interview with GNA in Accra, advised the assemblies to
engage the services of private institutions in the collection rates on commission
basis.
He said the collection of property rate was low due to the lackadaisical
attitude of the collectors and their failure to educate property owners about
their civic responsibility to pay taxes.
Mr. Owusu has asked government to engage the services of private groups
in the valuation of landed property to bring sanity into the system.
