Participants attending the annual review conference of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) in Kumasi have appealed to the agency to take steps to exercise some regulatory functions in the sub-sector.

This should include certification and licensing of sector operators and the enforcement of standards and guidelines for quality assurance.

These were contained in a communiqué they issued in Kumasi.

The four-day meeting was held under the theme “Facilitation of National Community Water and Sanitation Programme: Emerging Challenges and the Way Forward.”

Attended by 80 participants, the conference discussed the role of the agency in the decentralization process, the way forward in the change process and identified issues for the enactment of the necessary legislative instruments.

The communiqué drew attention to the need for the agency to fully utilize Information Communication Technology (ICT) for its operations.

Additionally it should explore the possibility of generating income from some of its activities.
