A circuit court in Cape Coast on Monday fined Kofi Asare, a driver GH¢620.00 for careless, inconsiderate driving and causing harm.

Asare, who pleaded guilty, would go to prison for 15 months in default. The court also ordered that GH¢200 of the fine be paid to the victim as compensation.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Samuel Obeng Addo, told the court presided over by Mr Beresford Acquah that on December 9, last year at about 1950 hours, Asare driving a Nissan Urvan bus with registration number AS 2703 Z from Siwdu, a suburb of Cape Coast, hit the back of a Kia Pride taxi cab, which had stopped to allow school children to cross the road.

The accident he said resulted in the injury of one of the passengers in the taxi.

Chief inspector Addo said, the passenger, Mr Charles Dadzie was later treated and discharged at the Central Regional hospital.

He said Asare was later charged after police investigations into the accident.

The court, also granted bail GH¢2,000 to Alex Kwofie, a taxi driver for a similar offence.

Kwofie, who pleaded not guilty, was to re-appear on Wednesday, February 25, 2009.
