Nanton MP Invests GH¢12,585 In Education

THE MEMBER of Parliament for Nanton Constituency, Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu spent total of GH¢12,585.36 from his share of the common fund to support education in his constituency during the whole of last year.

The area of support included both trained and untrained teachers doing sandwich programmes to upgrade themselves professionally, volunteer teachers in Zoggu area, students who had gained admission into tertiary institutions and infrastructural development.

A statement issued by the Member of Parliament noted that in all, a total of 88 people were assisted and these included 20 volunteer teachers; 40 untrained teachers doing sandwich programmes; 24 students in tertiary institutions and four trained teachers doing sandwich programmes.

The statement said the various categories of students alone got over GH¢ 9,000 with the remainder going into infrastructural development which included the wiring of teachers quarters at Tampion, Zoggu and Nyeko; rehabilitation of the Zokuga Primary School; support for the construction of nursery school at Batanyili and the provision of furniture for Nanton-Kurugu vocational training centre.

Alhaji Yakubu appealed to parents to send their children to school since education was the key to development in any society, and wished his constituents, the Savelegu/Nanton district, the Northern Region and the rest of Ghana a prosperous New Year.By James S. A. Kwashie
