A consumer education and protection campaign for institutions and clients in the Microfinance sub-sector has been launched in Ghana. The campaign which is held globally seeks to ensure that consumers of financial services are treated fairly and with respect by financial institutions.

The programme which was attended by practitioners, policy makers, entrepreneurs, researchers and government representatives was organised by the Ghana Microfinance Institutions Network, GHAMFIN and SPEED Ghana.

A statement signed by the executive secretary of GHAMFIN, Dr. David Andah said the launch is a very significant achievement for the Ghana Microfinance industry and begins a process towards the realization of the goal of the campaign.

He noted that consumer education covers Financial Literacy and how to acquire the right information from financial institutions at different stages of the borrowing and investment cycle.

As such clients can take appropriate action on matters affecting their financial health and well being.
