Benjamin Kumi, a 35-year-old trader who allegedly replaced his girl friend's ear drop with a super glue solution, thus causing pain to her eardrum, is languishing in jail.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charge of causing harm and was sentenced to nine months imprisonment by a Sekondi magistrate court, presided over by Mr. Tsatsu Azumah.
Kumi was also asked by the court to compensate the complaint, Vida Kyei in the sum of GH¢ 200 or in default serve additional three months imprisonment.
Prosecuting, Detective Sergeant Nana Gyebi said both the complainant and the accused had been in an intimate relationship for about six years and had an issue, who died after delivery.
The two lovers used to stay together at Adakope near Takoradi but separated due to a misunderstanding.
According to the prosecutor, somewhere in September this year the complainant visited the accused at Adakope and left in Kumi's room her ear drop container, in which was some medicine she was using to treat an ear ailment.
On September 20, 2007, the accused poured out the medicine in the container and filled it with a super glue solution.
At about 8:30 am that day, the accused handed over the container with its new content to the complainant to use.
The complaint unknowing used the “ear drop” and soon afterwards experienced great pain in both ears. After a critical examination of the contents, she discovered that it had been changed.
She therefore reported the case to the police and the accused was arrested. Upon interrogation, Kumi admitted the offence and was consequently put before court and charged with the offence.
