My prosecution by Godfred Dame was based on frivolous, trumped-up charges calculated to intimidate, silence me – Ato Forson

Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has vehemently criticized his prosecution, describing it as a deliberate and baseless attempt to stifle his dissent and intimidate him into submission.

Dr. Forson, known for his outspoken criticism of the government’s economic policies, labeled the charges against him—related to an ambulance procurement deal—as unfounded and politically motivated. He asserted that the allegations serve partisan interests rather than justice.

Addressing Parliament on Monday, January 6, Dr. Forson accused Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame of orchestrating what he called a campaign of "malicious prosecution" aimed at tarnishing his reputation and undermining his role as a leading opposition figure.

He pointed to the timing of the charges, which coincided with heated debates over the controversial e-levy policy, as evidence of political retribution. Dr. Forson argued that his vocal opposition to the policy made him a target.

“My recent prosecution, or call it persecution, by the Attorney General over frivolous and trumped-up charges was calculated to intimidate and silence and completely extinguish a known dissenting voice, and my crime was that I sounded alarm bells on an economy that was being mismanaged and ruined by a select few in government.

“The fact that my prosecution began in the wake of the tussle over e-levy should not be lost on anyone that I became an instant target of the regime.

“The Attorney General and the minister responsible for justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, was determined to implore all crude tactics to achieve his ends of malicious prosecution just to satisfy the regime,” he emphasised.

The Minority Leader reiterated his commitment to advocating for transparency and accountability, vowing not to be deterred by what he described as politically motivated attacks.
