
Nana Kwabena Okyere, the Mmratehene of the Ayanfuri traditional area in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central Region, has died after reportedly shooting himself with a pump action gun while testing the potency of a juju at a funeral ceremony.
The incident occurred during the funeral rites of Abusua Panyin Akwasi Kwateng at Ayanfuri, where the chief was among mourners gathered for the event.
Sources confirmed that the chief sustained a severe gunshot wound and was rushed to the Ayanfuri Pentecost Hospital for emergency treatment.
According to the medical officer at the facility, Nana Kwabena Okyere arrived at the hospital with a deep gunshot wound to the abdomen. The injury reportedly caused his intestines to protrude, and he died while receiving treatment.
Police have confirmed the incident and stated that the body has since been transferred from the hospital to the mortuary of the Dunkwa On Offin Municipal Hospital for preservation and further investigations.
