President Nana Akufo-Addo's launch of the One Student, One Tablet initiative for Senior High School (SHS) students has sparked debate, with some critics questioning the policy's effectiveness.

The initiative, aimed at enhancing computer literacy among young Ghanaian students, involves providing pre-programmed laptops to each SHS student nationwide.

The government touts the initiative as a means to advance e-learning and digitalization, aligning with efforts to prepare students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

However, Kwesi Parker Wilson, a host on Oyerepa TV's 'Oyerepa Breakfast Time' morning show, expressed skepticism about the policy's true impact.

He raised several concerns, including the lack of clarity on the problem the policy seeks to address in schools, the existing regulation prohibiting phone use in schools, and potential challenges related to internet connectivity.

Wilson also highlighted the prevalence of sports betting among students, suggesting that providing tablets may exacerbate issues related to students' attention and participation in class.

In his critique, Wilson stated, "The problem here is that it's a fanciful policy just for political gimmicks and electoral votes. Honestly, that is my view on this matter."
