The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has cited the operators of the now-demolished Fantasy Dome event centre for stealing electricity through an illegal connection.

The Fantasy Dome, located at the Accra Trade Fair site, was demolished on March 16, after its tenancy agreement expired in December 2023.

During the dismantling process, a fire broke out due to the illegal connection, which electricians were unaware of.

The fire service had to be called to respond, reports Asaase Radio online.

ECG officials investigated and traced the source of the fire to the illegal power connection installed by Fantasy Dome management, according to the report.

The revenue protection division of ECG found as seen by ModernGhana News that "Customer connected power illegally to the Fantasy Dome (Event Centre). Even though they have their own metering system, they by-pass the meter and connected the power illegally from the public network..."

ECG has given Fantasy Dome 48 hours to submit a report to the revenue protection taskforce in order to "regularize your power service connection."

Failure to do so, the power producer said could result in "criminal proceedings."
