ASEPA Executive Director, Mensah Thompson has criticized those mocking independent presidential candidate Nana Kwame Bediako's promise to dredge a canal connecting the sea to Kumasi.

According to him, the ridicule shows how accustomed Ghanaians have become to accepting "mediocre ideas and policies."

"First of all the ridiculing of this rather ingenious idea by Ghanaians shows how much we have become so accustomed to mediocre ideas and policies such that anything outside the box sounds like a joke to us as Ghanaians," Thompson wrote in a statement.

He praised Cheddar's "Sea to Kumasi" proposal as "one of the most brilliant ideas I have heard from a politician in a long while."

Mr. Thompson pointed to the strategic and economic benefits successful canals have provided other nations.

He proposed Ghana similarly build a "Boankra Canal" to ease road congestion.

"Canals have been built and used in the world for hundreds of years. There's never been a thing that has given any Country or region a strategic advantage than Canals," Thompson stated.

While some question its feasibility, the ASEPA boss argues Ghanaians should give innovative ideas a fair hearing rather than mock them, as the country needs "outside the box thinking" to solve pressing problems.
