Convention People’s Party (CPP) has attributed the delay in selecting a flagbearer for the 2024 elections to the refusal of the party’s former chairperson to step down despite a directive by the National Executive Council (NEC) for all national executives to step aside.

The party says despite the challenges, it is hoping to elect its flagbearer in July.

The CPP during a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Tuesday, 5th December 2023 instructed all national executives to step down while they elected a new set of executives to steer the affairs of the party ahead of the election.

The former chairperson, of the party, Akosua Frimponmaa Sarpong Kumankuma who disagreed with the party’s decision proceeded to court after she refused to step down.

Although the case is still pending in court, the interim spokesperson of the party, Dr Akwasi Bosompem Boateng has assured the public of the party’s plan to unveil its flagbearer in July amidst the back and forth.

Meanwhile, the Central Committee of the party has debunked claims by the former chairperson that the court case has affected the decision of the NEC.
