The husband of Ghanaian broadcaster Afua Asantewaa has publicly appealed to have part of Akwaaba Village in Accra renamed in honor of his wife's historic attempt to break the world record for the longest singing marathon.

Afua Asantewaa gained worldwide attention last December for her valiant 126-hours and 52-minute singing marathon attempt at the Akwaaba Village event space.

While her attempt was unsuccessful, her perseverance and dedication to promoting Ghanaian culture through music captured the imagination of people around the globe who followed her live-streamed performance.

Now, Kofi Aduonum believes his wife deserves to be recognized for her contributions.

“Akwaaba Village is a perfect name, but I think it is high time we honoured my wife, Asantewaa. They should give her a space, maybe Asantewaa's stage or Asantewaa's corner," said Mr. Aduonum.

He expressed optimism that renaming part of the venue after his wife could help establish it as a tourist attraction where people can learn about her historic singing marathon.

“It will serve as a tourist site. Those who watched it on TV, anytime they visit Accra, will visit it and know where the lady performed," he noted.
