The National Executive Committee of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has granted clearance to Mr Frank Aidoo, the Municipal Chief Executive for Akuapem South Assembly in the Eastern Region, to participate in the Parliamentary primary scheduled for March 2.

Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo stated, "The National Executives Committee, vested with the authority governing parliamentary primaries of our party, has given approval for the Municipal Chief Executive to contest in Akuapem South, thus, adding him to the list of contestants."

He added that the notice of polls would be amended to reflect Mr Frank Aidoo's candidacy.

As a consequence of this decision, an Emergency Constituency Delegates’ Conference will be convened in the Akuapem South Constituency to elect a Parliamentary Candidate for the December 7, 2024, polls.

The announcement was made by the Regional Chairman Jeff Konadu Addo during an interview on Accra-based Neat FM on Thursday, February 22, 2024.

The NPP officially postponed the Akuapem South primary on Thursday, January 25, 2024, citing petitions and recommendations from both the constituency and regional executive committees.

This delay was aimed at facilitating comprehensive consultations and addressing concerns arising from the withdrawal of Osei Bonsu Amoah, the Member of Parliament for Akuapem South Constituency.

Osei Bonsu Amoah withdrew from the race, citing personal and national interests and adhering to Public Elections Regulations 2016, C.I.94.

Despite earlier reports suggesting strategic nomination filing to potentially disqualify MCE Frank Aidoo,

Mr Amoah refuted such claims and withdrew after the vetting.

The decision by the National Executive Committee to clear Frank Aidoo means he will join Eric Apeadu Yeboah, Kwame Ofori Gyawu, and Samuel Annor Mensah in the primary contest scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2024.
