The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates who sat for the November/December series.

According to a press statement released by WAEC on Tuesday, February 20, a total of 37,825 candidates sat for the examination in the second series, comprising 17,389 males and 20,725 females. Sixteen candidates were visually impaired.

However, the results of 289 candidates have been withheld pending investigation into alleged cases of examination malpractice including collusion, impersonation and bringing unauthorized materials into the examination hall.

"The results of 289 candidates alleged to have been involved in various cases of examination malpractice have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into the cases of malpractice," said John K. Kapi, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC.

The released results are available online at the WAEC website (www.waecgh.org).

Candidates are advised to check their results and be wary of scammers contacting them with promises to upgrade their results for a fee.

"Candidates are to note that WAEC’s results database is well secured and all results can be authenticated. Institutions and organisations are therefore advised to confirm or verify results directly from WAEC," said Kapi.

In the core subjects, 65.15% of candidates obtained grades A1 to C6 in English Language, while 44.94% and 51.51% achieved the same grades in Mathematics and Integrated Science respectively.

An overwhelming 87.37% also passed Social Studies with grades A1 to C6.
