Professor Joseph Osafo, the Head of Psychology at the University of Ghana, has urged Ghanaians and critics of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to give him the benefit of the doubt, emphasizing that circumstances often compel individuals to change their minds.

Addressing recent criticisms directed at Dr. Bawumia, Prof. Osafo highlighted the right of individuals, even within a political party, to have their own thoughts and ideas.

He encouraged the public to grant the Vice President the chance to express his vision, just as they would with any other political leader.

Dr. Bawumia outlined his vision for the nation during an address on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.

His proposed initiatives included the abolition of the controversial Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy), making National Service optional, tax amnesty with a flat-rate tax introduction, cancellation of the betting tax, and the establishment of a seamless digital avenue at the passport office.

Dr. Bawumia faced criticism, with some attributing it to perceived governance challenges and limitations he faced as Vice President.

Professor Joseph Osafo defended the Vice President, asserting that it is not uncommon for individuals to have a change of mind regarding policies or issues.

He emphasized that people have the right to evolve in their thinking which circumstances can force individuals to reconsider their positions.

"He has a vision. The vision he has outlined, we can query him on the vision. We can take the vision and critique it, but I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt just as we will give to former President Mahama that people change their minds, and not only that, circumstances will force you to change your mind," Prof. Osafo stated this during an interview on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show.
