The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has cautioned the public and development partners about a fraudulent organization impersonating the regional bloc.

In a communique released on Tuesday, January 16, ECOWAS said it has come to their attention that the Regional Development Cooperation Agency (RDCA) has been "using ECOWAS brand and images of ECOWAS personalities to seek support from development partners."

The communique, signed in Abuja, Nigeria, noted that RDCA's website "shows that its intention is to defraud people and organizations by using ECOWAS brand and images of ECOWAS personalities to make them believe that they are an ECOWAS entity acting for and on behalf of ECOWAS."

ECOWAS stated categorically that "the said Regional Development Cooperation Agency (RDCA), is NOT an ECOWAS entity and ECOWAS has NO affiliation whatsoever with the said organization."

"The ECOWAS Commission calls on the said Regional Development Cooperation Agency (RDCA), to immediately desist from this fraudulent practice and reserves the right to take appropriate legal action against the said organization,” added the communique.
