Letter Mind Your Words: AN Open Letter to Sam George
NOV 20, 2023 LISTEN

Dear Sam George, MP
I trust this letter finds you well. I am writing as a member of the NDC and concerned citizen who has observed recent comments attributed to you that appear to target a particular religious group. While I respect your right to express your views, I urge you to consider the potential consequences of such comments on our nation's peace and stability.

Our nation, Ghana, is known for its diversity and the harmonious coexistence of people from various religious backgrounds. This unity is one of our greatest strengths, and any rhetoric that undermines it is a cause for concern. It is imperative, especially as a public figure and Member of Parliament, to be mindful of the impact words can have on social cohesion.

Engaging in unnecessary comments that target specific religious groups can be dangerous for the peace and stability we cherish. Such remarks have the potential to sow seeds of discord and erode the fabric of our inclusive society. It is crucial to foster an environment of understanding, respect, and tolerance for the diversity that makes our nation strong.

I implore you to question the locus of such comments and reflect on the responsibility that comes with your position. As a representative of the people, your words carry weight and influence. It is incumbent upon leaders to contribute positively to the public discourse, promoting unity rather than division.

History has shown us that characters like You who engages in divisive rhetoric have, contributed to political setbacks of the NDC.

Ghana's democratic journey has been marked by a commitment to peaceful transitions and inclusive governance. Any deviation from these principles risks undermining the progress we have collectively made.

I urge you to consider the potential long-term consequences of your words on the image of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and, more importantly, on the unity of our beloved nation. Let us engage in dialogue that builds bridges, not walls; that fosters understanding, not animosity.

I trust that you will take this comments to heart.

Wishing you wisdom and discernment in your endeavors.

Yours sincerely,
Delanyo Agbe
