Former Deputy Attorney General, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka has admonished the National Democratic Congress (NDCC) to thread cautiously ahead of the Assin North by-election.

According to him, the decision by the opposition party to re-present James Gyakye Quayson as its candidate for the upcoming by-election can have dire consequences.

Speaking to Joy News on matters relating to the Assin North by-election, Joseph Dindiok Kpemka noted there could be consequences for not only the NDC but the state as well.

“The NDC is assuming a particular risk. If I were the prosecutor, I will not need more than 2 witnesses to prosecute this case.

“The risk can pay off or have consequences on them. They should exercise caution.

“If he wins and is convicted we will be back to this same issue of by-election and that will amount to some waste of state resources,” Joseph Dindiok Kpemka argued.

Last month, the Supreme Court ruled that James Gyakye Quayson’s name as MP for Assin North should be expunged from Parliamentary records.

This was after he was found guilty of contesting the Assin North election in the 2020 General Election while holding dual citizenship.

Although criminal charges have been filed against him, the NDC believes he is still the right candidate and will represent him for the Assin North by-election on June 27.
