A member of the Council of State, Mr Ato Essuman has called on parents, school authorities and other stakeholders in education in the Central Region to support government's effort at improving educational standards there.
He expressed regret that the performance of students at basic and senior secondary levels was not encouraging and called on parents to invest in the education of their children.
Mr Essuman who is also the Chief Director of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, was addressing a cross-section of people at Cape Coast.
He said "Things are not going on well for a region which used to be the citadel of education in the country," and urged the people to establish educational endowment funds to support brilliant but needy children.
