FIVE people died on the spot and two others later at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, when a tipper truck veered off the road and went into a ditch on the Tanodumase-Gyereso road, near Bibiani, on Wednesday.
The dead, mostly traders, were identified as Kofi Aboagye, the driver, Kwadwo Dagarti, Edward Teye, Kwaku Kusasi, Theophilus Mensah, an eight-year-old boy, Yaw Boateng and Joe.
Twenty-seven others who sustained serious injuries are on admission at KATH and Bibiani Government Hospital.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Samuel Arlorday, Nyinahin District Police Commander, told the GNA that the tipper truck had been loaded with traders from Tanodumase for Gyereso on a market day, and while descending a hill, the driver lost control and hit a tree killing the seven and injuring the rest. The police are investigating.
