A 37-year-old driver mechanic, Francis Dzogbedey, has been arrested by the police for allegedly assaulting his mother-in-law, Paulina Amingo, 56, resulting in her death a month later.
The police said they are awaiting the report of the post-mortem to enable them to take the necessary action.
Briefing the Times here yesterday, Chief Superintendent Joshua T. Dogbeda, Tema Regional Crime Officer, said Dzogbedey and his wife, Silvia Amediku, lived together at Ashaiman New Town and on October 22, a fight ensued between the couple during which Amediku allegedly bit her husband’s left ear.
Dzogbedey reported the incident to the Ashaiman Police and he was issued a medical form to go to hospital.
Soon after he had left, Amediku and her mother reported at the police station to lodge a complaint of assault against Dzogbedey.
The two women were also given medical forms to attend hospital.
Chief Superintendent Dogbeda said later Ms Amingo complained of bodily pains and was taken to the Tema General Hospital where she was admitted but died on November 19.
He said police suspect that the death of Amingo is related to the alleged assault by her son-in-law.
