Ghana's EC Chair urges uniform election monitoring in ECOWAS countries

The Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Afari Djan has bemoaned the lack of proper procedures in election monitoring across Africa. Dr Afari Djan, who recently co-authored a handbook on election monitoring in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) sub-region, expressed worry over how the sub-region will streamline its democratic processes without a bases for monitoring elections in various countries.

In an interview with CITI NEWS, Mr Afari Djan said that considering the fact that most of the countries are recovering from one strife or the other, it is important for elections to be taken seriously to ensure that the democratic wave that has hit the African continent is sustained.

According to him, by streamlining processes of monitoring elections across the continent, mistakes could be avoided and more especially, confidence in reports of monitors would be guaranteed.
