The Holy Month of Ramadan according to the former Mayor of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly was to teach the people lessons of love , cohesion, compassion, and helping one another and must be applied as part of our daily lives after the fasting period is over.

As Muslims, you must be strengthened by the values and lessons to be learnt in this month which is described as holy and sacred . Holding fast the core values of the Islamic religion will help ensure national cohesion and tolerance for other people's faith and beliefs .

He asked for Allah's blessings , protections and guidance in this Holy month for the Imam and Muslims at large and was hopeful after the end of the fasting period , not only Muslims but Ghanaians at large will benefit from the blessings of the Holy month.

The visit to the Islamic leader in Ghana was to amongst other things wish the Imam and the entire Ghanaian Muslim fraternity well as they embark on the month long fasting in the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The former Greater Accra Regional Minister used the opportunity to officially announced to the Imam and Muslims in general his intentions to contest for the National Chairmanship position of the NDC in the next NDC national primaries.

Nii Armah Ashietey described the National Chief Imam as an epitome of peace, love and stability and a great blessing not only for the Muslim fraternity but Ghana at large. “The old man is a blessing to us all and I am glad to have lived in the same era with such a blessed person."

He said Ghana enjoys consistent peace and stability because of persons such as Dr. Nuhu Sharubutu and "I am asking the Almighty Allah to prolong his life with good health as well as wealth and prosperity."

According to Nii Armah Ashietey, the National Chief Imam is amongst the few religious leaders in Ghana who preach and practice religious tolerance amongst the religious groups in the country. “We all can attest to the Imam's tolerance and respect for other religions and faith-based organizations in the country and we must all emulate these positive examples and traits so as to live peacefully with one another".

In his response, Dr. Osumanu Nuhu Sharubutu thanked Nii Armah Ashietey and wished him well in his battle for the position of the National Chairman of his party.

He cautioned the aspirant to be circumspect and mindful of the words as he embarks on his nationwide campaign. "You must campaign purely on peace, unity and what you can bring on board when given the nod but not to campaign on insults, hatred, rancour and other negativity that will rather create divisions amongst party members."
