The Minority in Parliament has asked the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South Constituency in the Eastern Region to stop throwing dust into eyes of Ghanaians with his comments on E-Levy outside the floor of Parliament.

According to the NDC, the best place for an MP to show his or her debating skills is the floor and not the marketplace.

The Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim reprimanded the NPP MP who is also a Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Michael Okyere Baafi, on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Kwame Obeng Sarkodie on Accra 100.5 FM Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

The NDC MP for Banda Constituency in the Bono East Region was reacting to a statement by the Deputy Trade Minister at a marketplace in the Koforidua municipality of the Eastern Region during an outreach programme on the E-levy that the NDC MPs support the controversial E-Levy.

He explained that if the NPP MP feels good at speaking to convince the electorate, he should bring it to the floor of Parliament.

“The Deputy Minister should endeavour to bring these skills to the floor or he’s shying away from the floor because it is not a place for lying,” he queried.

He questioned why the NPP delegates in the first place voted Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi as their representative.

He added that the people of New Juaben South have sold their fat cow for a goat by voting for Mr. Okyere Baafi.

He added that Mr. Okyere Baafi comes nowhere near the former MP, Dr. Mark Osei Assibey when it comes to parliamentary duties.

According to him, unlike Dr. Assibey, Mr. Okyere Baafi has not contributed to a single debate on the floor since he became the MP for the area.
