SEP 8, 2020 LISTEN

The Deputy Minister for Greater Accra Region, Madam Elizabeth Sackey has commended Ghana Filmmakers for Nana 2020 team for declaring their support for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The Ghana Film Makers has pledged to give the NPP over one million vote come December 7th general elections to retain four years more.

According to the minister, it is not a crime for someone or a group to publicly declare its support for a particular political party.

"I believe that Ghana Filmmakers have decided to do this because of the good things they have seen government doing for the film, creative arts and tourism sector", she said.

Elizabeth Sackey was speaking at the inauguration and press launch of the group thus Ghana Filmmakers 4 Nana 2020 in Accra.

She added that Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and the NPP has better things for the film industry because the film industry has a lot of opportunities to offer the youth especially job and it is a good decision they have taken.

She indicated that it takes good track record to make someone or a group to endorse or throw its weight behind a political party to help it remain in power for another fours years.

She advised the group to stay away from politics of insults that would negatively affect the group and the NPP, saying " we want a peaceful election, violence should never be part of your activities".

The Founder and Convenor of the Ghana Filmmakers for Nana 2020 Mr. Richard Yaw Boateng on his part has reiterated the group's unflinching support for the NPP.

Mr. Boateng who is also the National President for Film Directors Guild of Ghana (FDDG), further explained that there are a lot of Filmmakers across the country and they will come out in the numbers to vote for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo because the film authority that he has set up alone is an indication that he has better things to do to Filmmakers.

"If we should call for an auditioning you will see the millions of people who would gather here to seek job to do and that would let one know that the filmmakers are many", he said.

"Ghana Filmmakers for Nana 2020 group has decided to support Nana Addo and the NPP to victory, because it has realise that its difficult to get assistance from a particular government in power without you giving them support they needed during elections.

....We are NPP party loyal and faithful members in the film making industry and we have decided to to support Nana Addo and the NPP, because we think this is the time I think they need us more also for us to show them that with with them" saying "we will go across all the sixteen regions and campaign for Nana Addo and the NPP", he indicated.

According to Mr. Boateng, the group members are adults who knows what is good for them and that the decision they have made is the best, because once there is a National Film Authority there is hope for Filmmakers in the country explaining "that we have confidence in Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and believe in him, he has done so much by giving a filmmaking school in Kumasi".

Although the there are some structures in the film Act that has made the work a bit slow for the authority , we believe that we support Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and the NPP he would fix things and make the authority stand firm to perform its role accordingly.

This will also help us to get the kind of studio, cinema and filmmaking schools that we need in the country to promote the filmmaking in industry and also compete internationally.

"We believe that if Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and the NPP is able to do the One District One Factory then he can do One District One Cinema right here in Ghana to bring back those days when people go to see movies at cinema. I am therefore calling on every Filmmaker in the country to join us support Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and the NPP to retain power come December 2020 general elections."
