‘I’ am Not Prez Kufuor’s Candidate’

Mr. Isaac Osei, the Chief Executive of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has said although he is not one of the people who have declared their intentions to take part in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, he does not think he cannot be one of them.
'It would be remiss if I don't listen to the voice of the people; if the people think that I am worthy of a presidential candidate why not? However, he indicated that for now his pre-occupation is to upscale the production of cocoa to reach 1,000,000 (million) metric tones from the 2004/2005 cocoa season production of 736,000 metric tones. After that I can think of becoming a President, he hinted.

Mr. Isaac Osei, who until recently was Ghana's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, stated these in an interview on Metro TV last week. He had for a long time been speculated as one of the President's preferred candidate for a successor to his reign. Continuing, Mr. Isaac Osei flatly denied any teleguilding from Apagyafie suggesting that he is his own man.

Hear him; I'm not President Kufuor's candidate', he emphasised. He added that democracy has a way of turning out leaders and I think time will tell. On the number of candidates in the NPP presidential race, he noted that he believes the large number (13) is healthy.
