Funk master DJ Blow, who used to play classic selections of groovy tunes on his show “Weekend Groove” on Atlantis Radio on weekends is back and set to put the groove back into radio, with his signing on to the 107.7 frequency of new urban radio 'Y' FM, the “Official Frequency for the Young and Young At Heart“, currently test-transmitting in the capital.
DJ Blow, whose real name is William Nanka Bruce is due to hit the airwaves today, a day after he thrills his regular disco-going gang who don't miss his ever popular after-work 'Disconite' club sessions on Fridays at the intimate Impulse Nite Club above El Gringo Restaurant at Osu, Nyaniba.
Y FM, owned by Global Media Alliance is the latest frequency to join the capital's airwaves, and with a line-up of talents ready to spearhead the latest radio revolution in Accra, sources have also confirmed that Naa Adjorkor, formerly of Groove FM, who's back in Ghana after her sojourn in the US, would be handling the morning show whiles Nana Kwame Osei Sarpong, formerly of Atlantis Radio will drive the capital home at sundown.
There is a wide variety of fascinating and groundbreaking programs and events lined up, and people in the capital are urged to brace themselves for the 'Y' phenomenon which is about to sweep Accra!
It will be recalled that DJ Blow, for over three years, took many old school music enthusiasts on a musical journey back to the 80s through to the 90s after a hectic week and on tiresome Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Sometimes it threw one as far back as to the 70's, spinning some real disco numbers as well as rare grooves that brought back some good reminisces.
DJ Blow's dexterity on the turntable was simply remarkable as he played according to pace and era, injecting some humor which went down well with both the young and middle-aged audience of the show. A segment which invited listeners to send in dedications always saw an influx of messages and praises eulogizing Bruce, which illustrated the show's popularity.
The capital will now have another chance to experience some good old rare grooves.
