Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Obaapa Christy has urged her colleagues in the gospel music industry to place value on themselves in order to avoid being cheated by event organizers.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, Obaapa Christy commented on issues facing gospel musicians and criticisms leveled against them when disputes arise over payments.

She advised artists not to drag their name in the mud by saying unnecessary things when faced with challenges.

"There is no need saying all sorts of things to dampen their spirits. I sometimes hear not too good comments about gospel musicians when their issues come up and they can be very disheartening," Obaapa Christy noted.

The acclaimed singer further said that while gospel musicians are human and prone to mistakes, the media and public tend to focus more on their negatives rather than positives.

However, according to Obaapa Christy, if gospel artists place worth on their talents and hard work, event organizers will have no choice but to pay them what they truly deserve.

She advised, "I always say that when you place value on yourself, no event organiser will pay you whatever they want but rather give what is due you when you are hired to perform."

Backing up her point, Obaapa Christy revealed that in her over 20 years career, she has always been paid fairly for her performances.

“I have done this for over 20 years for anyone to just pay me any amount. I am paid what I am due and that is because I am worth it," she stated.
