A Matthew Amoah hat-trick inspired Vitesse Arnhem to claim all three points on their travels at Willem II.
Willem II came into the home contest looking to climb away from trouble at the foot of the table, but they had not counted on Amoah stealing the show.
The Tilburgers found themselves behind just nine minutes in, as Amoah fired Vitesse ahead.
The home side restored parity 60 seconds later thanks to a goal from Arvid Smit, but the revival was short-lived as Amoah found the target on 20 minutes.
Theo Janssen's effort on the half-hour handed Vitesse a cushion and Amoah put the game beyond Willem II when completing his hat-trick on 70 minutes.
Csaba Feher and Martijn Reuser scored for Willem II in the final 15 minutes to set up a grandstand finish, but Vitesse stood firm to run out 4-3 winners.
