Mungu Rainbow Sports Academy from Ghana cleans portions of Dansoman beach for Norway Cup. The cleanup was done in collaboration with the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and a private plastic waste collector, Elvis Collection in Accra.

A total of 800kg of waste were collected at the beach. The items included plastic bottles, roles, foams, throne fishing net, plastic bags, and pieces of wood, among others.

The beach cleaning is part of a football tournament initiative, NorwayCup and Marine Litter to promote a clean and safe environment for all. The Mungu Rainbow football team participated in the exercise to also complement government's efforts at keeping Ghana clean and also by spreading the Norway Cup message of a clean and safe environment among the footballers.

The Assistant Captain of the team, Edward Frimpong, said the exercise has been helpful and they as footballers have changed their behaviour towards the environment.

He said the first action they have taken is to simply stop littering.

One fisherman, Samuel Mantey at the beach lamented at the heaps of plastic waste at the beach and encouraged the government to find measures in curbing the prenominal. He congratulated the efforts of the Mungu Rainbow football team saying, this will give them a relief.

The club was formed from a keep fit initiative by the FFP as an experimental approach for the organization to begin sports programming. After one year of operating the keep fit, the club registered with the district football association to play the district league. The commencement of the football club has created an opportunity for student in Mallam and Gabwe communities to participate in extracurricular activities to explore other potentials in sports.
