Golf Ghana PGA Gets Busy As 2017 Calendar Closes

Ghana Professional Golfers will be very busy in the next two months as they prepare for three major championships in Tema, Celebrity and Damang from November 1, to December 2, 2017, respectively.

The year which has to be extremely quiet and dark for the professionals in the first three-quarters of the season will be revived with three non-stop tournaments in the last quarter with very healthy purses to compete for.

Speaking to the hard working president of Ghana PGA, Mr Anthony Kwame Mintah, he stated the long two months starts with a three day 2017 Tema open tournament from November 1st to 3rd with a purse of Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 20,000).

Mr Mintah also revealed that exactly three weeks later, the first-ever Giti

Tire open will tee off at Celebrity golf club in Sakumono, with Giti Tire company giving out Eighty Thousand Cedis (GHS80,000) for the championship.

The year will be crowned with the third edition of Damang Goldfields PGA Annual tournament which is the flagship competition on the calendar of Ghana Professional Golf. This prestigious tournament which boasts sponsorship from Goldfields and many other high-end corporate bodies will commence on November 29, to December 2, 2017, at Damang. This year's event will be graced by His Royal Majesty Asantehene Nana Osei Tutu II, as a special guest of honour together with the Gold Fields Group CEO, Mr Nicolas J Holland. The final and With Gold prize money is yet to be determined but the massive interests shown thus far from the sponsors indicate that there is going to be a massive improvement on last year's edition.

Over seventy golfers are expected to rub shoulder in these events as Vincent Torgah faces keen competition from big names like, Emos Korblah, Kojo Barni, Ayisah, John Mawuli, the Captain of the PGA, Stephen Kwame Klah, Victor Brave Mensah, one of the seniors in Vincent's quest to defend his title for the third time running since the inception of this tournament.

The enthusiastic president who has development of golf and Ghana pros golfers at heart again hinted that proposals have been sent out and discussions are also far advanced between the Association and prospective sponsors to come on board next year to enable the Association to take golf to at least two senior high schools in every Region in the country to help promote the sport of golf as well give the professionals jobs to do if not permanent by teaching the younger ones.

He concluded by thanking Gold Fields Ghana Limited for their unflinching support for Ghana PGA over the years and also praised Giti Tire company for coming on board as partners for the upliftment of the game and hope for good long-term relationship.
