The Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for Africa Hockey Federation Cup of Nations, Mr. Magnus Rex Danquah has urged the media to give hockey the needed publicity as the country hosts the forthcoming hockey championship.
For Mr. Danquah, the opportunity has presented itself for Ghana and the medial sector in particular to give the sport the needed backing by way of publicity.
“This is a huge facility, and we must seize the opportunity to give it the necessary support. I pray that we have another opportunity to host a boxing competition,” said Mr Danquah.
He pointed out that supporting and promoting such competitions will not only boost the tourism industry, but will help the country develop its sports infrastructure as well.
After close to an hour facility visit and inspection at the hockey stadium earmarked for the hockey championship, he revealed that few changes will be made, for instance he said the proposed four camera stands are not enough.
Together with Mr. Oko-Nikoi, vice chairman of the LOC, they suggested that the facility is commercialized to help maintain it, as well as generate income for the sport.
The hockey championship is expected to bully off from July 10 to 18, 2009.
