How am I doing?…Sports Minister quizzes

By Kofi Owusu Aduonum - Ghanaian Chronicle

In his hanker to ensure a paradigm shift in the Youth and Sports Ministry, the Minister. Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka -Mubarak has dined with sports journalists at his Ashalley Botwey plush residence.

And like the adage “He who creates the path has no idea how it looks like behind him”. By implication, the young Minister has asked sports journalists to point out his errors and possibly make suggestions to him as and when necessary.

He has already chalked 30 days in office as a Sports Minister, and in taking stock of his performance, he invited sports journalists last Friday to his house to brainstorm and strategize on how to raise the bar in his Ministry. “How am I doing, am I on track or veering off? I will appreciate it if you point out my mistakes and make constructive suggestions as long as I remain the Sports Minister,” said Alhaji Muntaka.

He pointed out that: “The hue and cry about the chartered flight to Cote d'Ivoire for the CHAN final tells me that people are watching, hence this gathering to ensure we conduct ourselves well to achieve our target results.”

He stated how his outfit has purposed to ensure changes in the sporting sector. For instance, Alhaji Muntaka revealed that football teams in the country will be categorized according to its support base.

The young and affable Minister revealed that the high cost of using the stadia has necessitated the categorization, saying “The operation of the stadium is expensive and if for example you will spend GH¢20,000 for the use of the stadium and a club makes far below that amount, then it makes no sense in granting that team the opportunity to use the facility.”

He suggested that after the categorization, some team teams will be made to use the El-Wak stadium.
