World Cup 2022 World Cup: GFA explains why Ibrahim Danlad was not invited for Black Stars playoff games against Nigeria
MAR 22, 2022 LISTEN

Vice President of the Ghana Football Association [GFA], Mark Addo has explained the decision why Ibrahim Danlad was left out of Black Stars squad for the 2022 World Cup playoff games against Nigeria.

The Asante Kotoko first-choice goalkeeper despite his fine form could not earn a place in Otto Addo's 27-man squad for the crucial games.

This decision by the technical team has led to backlash from the public after Manaf Nurudeen, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Richard Ofori and Joojo Wollacott were invited for the games.

“The coaches have watched Ibrahim Danlad's tapes and they know his strength and weaknesses,” Addo told Kumasi based Kessben TV.

“They compared him to all the goalkeepers called for Nigeria clash and that is why he wasn’t selected. This is only two games and I am sure they will continue to monitor and he will have his opportunity.

“I am not speaking for the coaches but every decision taken is based on information available to them. Let us just support the team for us to qualify,” he added

Danlad holds the highest number of clean sheets in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League after making 11 appearances and conceding only four goals with eight clean sheets.

The Black Stars will take on the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the first leg of the play off at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Friday, March 25, while the second leg is scheduled for the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday, March 29, 2022.

The winner of the two legs will progress to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament.
